DMC Pickleball Court Complex Update
September 22, 2024
Our Court Sports Committee is pleased to provide this progress update to our DMC family. The project is ahead of schedule and this week marks a pivotal week as we near completion of four outdoor pickleball courts.
The post-tension slab was completed about a month ago. Last week concrete flat work around the playing surface was poured. The flat work will provide viewing areas at each end of the complex with additional viewing all along the north side of the courts.
Court fencing will be completed Monday along with power washing the courts in preparation for painting of the court surface with multiple layers of Nova textured paint. By the end of the week the court portion of the project should be completed but will require a two week curing/bonding period. We will make an announcement to our members regarding when the courts will be ready for play.
There are several other remaining items with the largest one being the completion of the 8’ stamped concrete sidewalk which begins at the tennis parking lot, heads south down to the pickleball courts, turns east and runs the full length of the pickleball courts. Additionally, the DMC Board approved funding of a sprinkled grassy area directly north of the stamped concrete sidewalk. This work will begin as soon as the concrete sidewalk is completed. This area will provide a nice area for several potential uses — lawn bowling, bocce ball, croquet, badminton, concerts, etc.
There will be four main entry gates (one for each court) as well as two convenience gates to retrieve pickleballs that have been hit over the south fence area. We are working on different options for gate access from traditional push button code locks to card access. Wind screens will also be added around the perimeter.
Our Court Sports Committee is working on a court scheduling system for when the courts are completed which gives access to all levels of play — instructional, beginner, intermediate and advanced. One thing we have learned from other pickleball complexes is we need to designate specific times and courts by level of play so that the pickleball experience will be better for all.
Word is getting around. The Village Voice previously ran a great article regarding our Pickleball Court Complex and they have agreed to run an update article soon. Our Court Sports Committee is planning a Grand Opening Celebration Wednesday November 6 where we will invite DMC members as well as non-members to come and check out our new Pickleball Courts. There will be live music, food, pickleball exhibition matches, beginner instruction along with opportunities for all to play pickleball.
Terri Socha is already seeing new members join and in some cases re-join due to building the pickleball courts. This trend will continue and our Grand Opening Celebration offers a great opportunity to show potential members the great facilities we have (golf, tennis, pickleball, swimming pool, fine dining) and to interact with our DMC family.
These are truly exciting times here at DMC!
