2023 Diamante MGA Awards Dinner Review

Steve Secora was named the Diamante Country Club’s Men’s Golf Association Player of the Year at the organization’s 2023 Awards Dinner on Tuesday, November 14, the fourth consecutive year Secora has won the top honor.

His win was the culmination of a season-long race among the 143 Diamante MGA players to earn points through a combination of participation and play quality over more than 30 separate events.

Some 70 MGA members attended the awards dinner at the Club. The complimentary meal featured a choice of an 8-oz filet mignon or encrusted turkey breast.

In other awards, Secora also took home the award as the top Blue Tee player. David Weatherly was named the top White Tee player and Bill Friedmantook home top honors among the Silver Tee players.

The most improved Blue Tee player award for the 2023 season went to Andrew Grabhorn, who improved his index from 5.4 to 1.8. Bill McGhee,who dropped his index from 13.3 to 7.0, earned the most improved White Tee player award, and his brother Garland McGhee was named the most improved Silver Tee player, lowering his index from 20.7 to 16.4.

Jim Burk was recognized for winning the MGA’s Last Man Standing tournament on November 2, a 12-hole elimination contest among the MGA’s top 20 2023 golfers.

The team of Bill Friedman and Ray Foley was recognized for winning the MGA’s Oktoberfest tournament, the annual member-member tournament held each fall.  

Dean Link and Dave Clark and Jim Fulton and Mark Ryan received awards for winning their respective Oktoberfest flights.

The eight-man St. Andrews team, comprised of Steve Secora, Dave Clark, Phil Tyree, Dave Beed, Michael Doyle, Mark Ryan, Tom Stant and Scott Finnell, was awarded the trophy for winning the MGA’s Highland Fling, the organization’s annual spring member-member tournament.

Finally, eight Diamante MGA members were recognized for making holes-in-one during the season. They were:

Kevin McMillin - Hole #4
Barry Jacobsen - Hole #4
Doug Picano - Hole #16
Randy Lund - Hole #12
Charles Mecca - Hole #12

Jim Robinson was recognized with the President’s Award for his service leading the organization during the 2023 season.
